I'd argue that the missing link is a Cause. My young/smart/educated attempt:
Young + Cause = Teen Angst ---> Terrorism
Smart + Cause = DC Power Broker
Educated + Cause = UC Berkeley Professor
Smart + Educated + Cause = Billionaire philanthropist
Young + Educated + Cause = Protestor (see: TianAnMen Square, 1989; Iranian Revolution, 1977; or Iranian Revolution 2.0, 2009)
Young + Smart + Cause = Potential (equal to A)
